Our Origins

A Problem in a Farmhouse.
A Solution That Became a Product Line.

How a cold basement in the 1970s led to 40 years of Canadian HVAC innovation.

1

The 1970s — The Problem

Founder Cliff Hoyme followed code and installed a standard fresh-air intake for combustion in a farmhouse. The result was what thousands of homeowners still experience today: a cold basement, wasted energy, and unnecessary strain on the heating system. Cold outside air entering continuously — because nothing was controlling when it came in.

2

The Insight — The Solution

Cliff's solution was straightforward: use motorized dampers to control when and how outside air enters the system — open when the appliance fires, closed when it doesn't. That single insight became the foundation of Hoyme Manufacturing. A full line of CSA-approved combustion-air and ventilation dampers that improve efficiency, stabilize airflow, and support modern energy codes including the Model National Energy Code for Houses (MNECH).

3

Today — The Standard

Thousands of contractors, homebuilders, mechanical engineers, and code officials across Canada and the United States have relied on Hoyme components to deliver safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient combustion-air solutions. Still manufactured in Camrose, Alberta. Still solving the same problem Cliff identified in that farmhouse 40 years ago.

"Use motorized dampers to control when and how outside air enters the system."
