Furnace Fan Does It All
Building codes require outside fresh air to be supplied into a dwelling and for the sake of comfort, this air is to be tempered. HOYME Furnace Fan Generated Counter-Flow Air Exchanger (HAE) does this and more. It also tempers cold air before it enters the area of the Furnace Fan and therefore protects furnace parts. No need for expensive electric heaters or special motors to service or wear out. With the HAE, there are no moving parts, the Furnace Fan does it all. Using the Furnace Fan also guarantees the HAE remains operational at all times.
While fresh, warm air is supplied through the Air Exchanger into the heating system, moist stale air is exhausted through a separate duct. The exchange of air, according to calculations, is approximately 100 to 120 cu. ft/minute, depending on the static pressure of the Furnace Fan. The area of heat transfer in the unit is over 3000 sq.in. plus another 3000 sq.in. when using at least a total of 15 ft. of concentric ducting connected to and from the unit. As a result, heat transfer proves to be very high. Recent tests showed over 10% higher sensible effectiveness than a conventional HRV – Heat Recovery Ventilator (ERV – Energy Recovery Ventilator) based on tests done by the National Research Council, Ottawa – 2014.
Additionally, the HAE operates continuously in cold weather. The exhausting of moist, stale air while the Furnace is firing defrosts any ice build-up in the unit with the extra heat being brought back into the system. Excess moisture is drained off through a plastic hose directed to a drain. Multiple aluminum ducts inside the unit eliminate plugging and therefore guarantee a continual flow of fresh inlet air and a continual exhausting of moist stale air through all kinds of weather. Exhaust Fans from bathrooms, kitchens and other areas can also be directed through the HAE unit by the addition of an optional kit having a Back-Draft Damper and a ‘Y’ connection.
