My damper motor feels really hot, is this normal?

Yes, the single motors used in the HAC and HOM dampers can reach temperatures that are very hot to the touch.

This is normal and by design. When operating they are functioning in a continuous stall and may reach temperatures as hot as boiling water either holding the damper Open or Closed. And just like you wouldn’t stick your hand into boiling water, neither should you hold your hand on the motor, for long, at least while it is operating.

Just remember that the damper should be located in a place where it is accessible for servicing if needed.
